KXTN One On One: Emilio

What is the story behind your start in the Tejano business?

Well, I got the call to join David Lee Garza Y Los Musicales back in 1983. It was my good buddy Ram Herrera and he said they were looking for a vocalist.  I guess I got very lucky because I got the gig!

When you’re not touring, what activities do you enjoy?

Does this have to be rated PG?! Fishing! Hands down- I love to fish.  I also like golf and bar-b-que.

What are your boys up to?

We’re excited. They are looking for a label and a band name right now. They just finished recording- classic rock style- and they are looking for suggestions for a name.  They were the “Big Dogs” but that was taken already.  If you have suggestions, you can email me: tejanomusic@emilioyrio.net

Emilio’s favorite food?

   Carne Asada! Off the grill.

Emilio’s favorite vacation spot?

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico- been there 4 times already.

If you could go back in time, what year would you re-visit in your life and why?

It would have to be 1978. That was the year I won All State choir at McCollum High School here in San Antone.
